As per TOI’s sources, Delhi Capitals are close to finalizing the signing of Kings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin for the IPL’s upcoming season, with only a few formalities remaining. Capitals’ mentor Sourav Ganguly expressed his satisfaction stating they would love to have him in the team.

As a part of their continuous efforts to taste glory and win a maiden IPL title, Delhi Capitals have identified Ravichandran Ashwin as their latest target that can help them mount a stronger challenge. The 32-year-old right-arm off-spinner was the skipper of the Kings XI Punjab in the season that concluded earlier this year, having been bought for a price of Rs. 7.6 crores in the auction.

If sources are to be believed, the transfer is on the verge of completion, with the Capitals ready to go all out to procure the Indian international’s services.

“The deal with Ashwin should be through. The Capitals are very close to signing him. There are a few formalities that need to be taken care of,” TOI quoted a source close to the franchise’s management.

In the past, Ashwin has also represented the Rising Pune Supergiants and Chennai Super Kings. He has played 139 matches in a span of 10 years, having picked 125 wickets at an average of approximately 26.5. He is renown for his economic bowling, having an ER of 6.79, the second-best among bowlers to have played more than 100 matches in the competition.

Ashwin is an experienced campaigner and has 222 international caps to his name, including 46 T20Is in which he has picked 52 wickets.

“We would love to have Ashwin in our team, It also depends on if Kings XI Punjab release him,” Sourav Ganguly, who was in the national capital for an IPL review meeting of the club stated, reported TOI.
