The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) confirmed, on Tuesday, that the former Indian spinner Sunil Joshi will join their camp as coach of the Ranji team for a one-year term. He will join the Uttar Pradesh training camp ahead of the Vijay Hazare Trophy that starts on October 10.

Veteran spinner Sunil Joshi will coach the Uttar Pradesh Ranji team, replacing Mansur Ali Khan who was with the UP team during the last season. Joshi represented India in 15 Test matches and 69 ODIs, will join the training camp on September 20.

The former left-arm spinner from Karnataka was previously associated with the Bangladesh cricket team in the recent past as their spin consultant. His term with the Bangla team ended with the conclusion of the 2019 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, after which Joshi had applied for the Indian team’s bowling coach.

Much to his disappointment, he wasn't shortlisted for the role by BCCI and instead former medium pacer Bharat Arun was reappointed as bowling coach of the Indian cricket team.

"We have appointed Sunil Joshi as coach of our team for one year. He will join the camp before the Vijay Hazare trophy," Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) Secretary Yudhvir Singh told PTI-Bhasha.

Meanwhile, the UP cricket board hasn't made any decision on captaincy yet. UP had won their maiden and only Ranji title in 2005-06 and have been runners-up five times.
