Stop crying over these things mate, responds Harbhajan Singh after Adam Gilchrist's DRS tweet
Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to reply to Adam Gilchrist, asking him to 'stop crying' over his dismissal during the off-spinner's famous hat-trick at Eden Gardens in the historic Kolkata Test in 2001. Gilchrist had posted a tweet expressing his regret over the DRS not being available then.
As though an introduction to the epic encounter it would turn out to be, Harbhajan trapped Ricky Ponting and Gilchrist in front, before having Shane Warne caught at forward short leg to become the first Indian ever to take a Test hat-trick. Harbhajan went on to finish the innings with figures of seven for 123, before starring in India’s epic 171-run win by taking another six wickets in the second innings.
However, the controversial hat-trick may not have been possible today if the DRS system was in place. The second and third dismissals were hotly debated on air that day and for many days to come. While Ponting was plumb in front, Gilchrist, the second man to be dismissed leg before wicket, was given out unfairly. Not only did the ball pitch outside leg stump, with Harbhajan bowling from over the wicket, but replays showed the ball was hitting his bat first.

Not one to hold back, Harbhajan fired back with a reply stating that the wicket keeper wouldn't have survived long anyway. "U think u would have survived for long if not first ball? Stop crying over these things mate..thought u would talk sense after ur playing days.. but few things never change u r the prime example of that. Always crying (sic)," read the tweet that has since been deleted.
