IND vs SA | Shubman Gill gets maiden call-up for South Africa Tests

The Board of Cricket Control (BCCI) met on Thursday to announce the squad for the upcoming three-Test series against South Africa in October. 20-year-old batsman Shubman Gill has received a maiden test call-up, while misfiring Karnataka opener KL Rahul has been left out of the squad.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee met on Wednesday in New Delhi to select the 15-man Test squad for the upcoming Paytm Freedom Series against the touring South African side. One major change has been made to the Indian squad that toured West Indies in the form of the inclusion of young Shubman Gill’s over the seasoned KL Rahul. Despite not getting a game in the Tests against West Indies, Rohit Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha have retained their places in the squad. Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari and Jasprit Bumrah are all set to play their first ever Test in home soil.  

The national selectors have also named the Board President’s XI team for a three-day warm-up game that is scheduled to be played in Vizianagaram between September 26-September 28.

The 1st of the three Test matches of the Gandhi-Mandela Trophy will commence on October 2 in Visakhapatnam.
