The year was 2013, the Ashes was all lit up with the fire of Mitchell Johnson, the most fearsome bowler at his prime, who was ruthlessly killing the hopes of the England side. It’s six years hence, and this time it's Jofra Archer doing the same, taking us back on a nostalgia trip with his 'stare'.

Words were not required as Mitchell Johnson's deadly stare at Jimmy Anderson, way back in 2013, made it to the history books as one of the iconic moments in Ashes history, following one of the greatest spells of fast bowling in the legacy of Ashes. Jimmy Anderson, before trailing from the field, was glared at by Johnson, who had uprooted the middle stump that lay flat on the Adelaide Oval pitch.

Come to today's date, in Ashes 2019, it's Jofra Archer who has been using his fearful bowling to inflict the same amount of intense fear into the batsmen by staring into their eyes. And his victim was none other than his Hobart Hurricanes' teammate Matthew Wade, who was consolidating Australia's innings which would've resulted into an obvious downfall otherwise.

Wade, batting at 78, was becoming obviously annoying to Archer who was desperate for a wicket and the batsman was refusing to fall into any of the bowler's traps. Archer bowled his usual shortish length again- at a 146kmph speed, in the final delivery of the 55th over as Australia were on 200/5, which Wade ducked as reflex and that made Archer fire down the leg side. What followed was a prolonged staring contest between bowler and batsman. The moment well and truly described the pure emotions that go along with Ashes cricket as both men threw everything they had at each other in an attempt to guide their country to victory.

Plenty of stare-offs followed this particular incident and the eight-over burst from Archer to Wade almost surpassed the battle earlier in the series between the speedster and Steve Smith, which again has been one of the most talked about incidents of this series.
