Rinku Singh has said that his only target for his comeback to the Uttar Pradesh squad for the Vijay Hazare trophy is to play well and score as many runs as possible. Rinku was handed a three-month suspension by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for rule violation in June.

Three months after his suspension for featuring in an unauthorised tournament in Abu Dhabi, Rinku Singh is set to return to action. The 21-year-old left-handed batsman has been named in the Uttar Pradesh squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy which begins from September 24. Although a consistent performer on the domestic circuit, Rinku will hope this comeback will become a fresh start.

“My only target is to play well and score as many runs as possible. I have been working hard for that,” Rinku told Sportstar.

“I did not take a break from cricket. In the last three months, I have trained hard and it will reflect on my performances. I am looking forward to the season. Whatever has happened has happened. I have learned from my mistake and it’s time to move on,” Rinku added.

UP have also called up young speedsters Shivam Mavi and Ankit Rajpoot to bolster the bowling department. With former Indian cricketer Sunil Joshi as head coach and Samarth Singh as captain, UP will start its campaign in Vadodara on September 25. Samarth replaces last year’s Suresh Raina, who is still recovering from recent knee surgery.

The squad: Samarth Singh (Captain), Almas Shaukat, Abhishek Goswami, Akshdeep Nath, Rinku Singh, Hardeep Singh, Upendra Yadav, Ankit Rajpoot, Shivam Mavi, Mohsin Khan, Mohit Jangra, Saurabh Kumar, Shanu Saini, Ankit Chaudhary, Mukesh Kumar.
