Pakistan have decided against participating in the 2015 SAFF Championship which is scheduled to begin on 23 December at the Trivandrum International Stadium in Kerala. The withdrawal has been attributed to a High Court ruling which has suspended all activities of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) following a disputed election.

“I received an e-mail yesterday from the PFF saying it is withdrawing the Pakistan team from the SAFF Championship,” said SAFF general secretary, Anwarul Haque Helal, as reported by The Daily Star.

No official reason was provided for this decision, however this is the latest addition to the long list of AFC (Asian Football Federation) and SAFF tournaments they have skipped recently.

This decision comes just a month after Pakistan and India were drawn into the same group for the Championship. It will now be a seven-team event and it is yet to be seen whether the organizing committee makes any changes to the format, or invites another team to replace Pakistan in Group A.
