Defending I-League champions Mohun Bagan continued their domination in the AFC Cup with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Myanmar team Yangon United in Guwahati on Wednesday. Jeje Lalpekhlua scored a brace, including the winner, as the Mariners moved one step closer to qualifying for the knock-out stage.

Sony Norde continued his goalscoring run in the AFC Cup when he gave Mohun Bagan the lead in the 10th minute. Yusa Katsumi created the opportunity for the Haitian with a perfectly delivered ball from a free-kick.

Norde continued to trouble the Yangon United defence, and in the 21st minute, he assisted Jeje Lalpekhlua with a lovely cross, as the 25-year-old doubled the home team's lead.

The Myanmar-based club threw men forward after conceding the second goal and eventually pulled one back in the 34th minute when Mohun Bagan conceded a penalty. Brazilian forward Marcelo Fernandes converted the resultant spot-kick, and the teams went into the halftime break with the Mariners holding a slim lead of 2-1.

The goals continued to rain in the second half, and Yangon equalized in the 64th minute as Marcelo completed his brace. However, just two minutes later Jeje handed the lead back to Mohun Bagan and made it 3-2.

The Mariners managed to hold on to their slim lead as Debjit Majumdar made some crucial saves towards the closing stages of the match. With this win, Mohun Bagan now have a perfect nine points from their opening three games in Group G, and can virtually confirm their place in the next round with an away win over Maziya S&RC in their next game on April 27.
