Indian football team coach Stephen Constantine on Monday announced the 20-member squad for the two-legged 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Laos. India will take on Laos on June 2 away at Vientiane, before travelling back to India to face the same opposition at Guwahati on June 7.

India are fighting against Laos for a place in the group stage of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers after they managed just three points out of a possible 24 in the first stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup/2019 Asian Cup qualifiers. Stephen Constantine has included as many as seven players from I-League champions Bengaluru FC with Sunil Chhetri, Eugeneson Lyngdoh, Udanta Singh, Amrinder Singh, Rino Anto, Keegan Pereira, and Alwyn George making the cut.

Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who made history yesterday to become the first Indian to play in the European top division, is also part of the squad along with veteran goalie Subrata Paul. Vinit Rai, Rowllin Borges, CK Vineeth, David Lalrinmuana, Pronay Halder, Cavin Lobo, Augustine Fernandes, Dhanpal Ganesh, and Robin Singh missed out on the squad with injuries.

"There’s no reason to cry. We have a set of players who are ready. It’s an important match for us. The boys showed at the SAFF Championship what they were capable of. With not sufficient players available to play 11v11 in the camp, the focus was to improve the fitness levels of the players who reported," Constantine was quoted as saying by aiff.com.
