Chile booked a place in the final of the 2017 Confederations Cup beating Portugal on penalties in the semi-final after the game ended 0-0 in 120 minutes. Claudio Bravo was the star of the show for Chile as he saved three consecutive penalties in the shootout to help Chile register the 3-0 win.
Alexis Sanchez created the first opening of the game when his defence-splitting pass put Eduardo Vargas through on goal in the opening minutes of the game. However, Rui Patricio was alive to the danger and came off his line in quick time to prevent an early goal for the South American Champions. A couple of minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo created the first chance for the European Champions when his perfect cross found Andre Silva open at the far post, who was unable to beat the in-form Bravo. Silva and Charles Aranguiz had chances for their respective teams but both failed to test the shot-stoppers.
The second half had an identical start to the first half as both the teams were creating openings without too much success. As the game continued, it became obvious that ninety minutes would not be sufficient to separate the two sides. As the semi-final entered extra time, the enthusiasm of the 40,855 crowd increased at the Kazan Arena.
