Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been awarded a two-year contract extension after leading the club to a record 13th FA Cup title in a 21-year reign. In another notable development in Europe, Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel has parted ways with the Bundesliga side.
Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke met Wenger on Monday to discuss the Frenchman's future with the club and the decision of a two-year extension was conveyed to the directors the following day. An official announcement is extended later on Wednesday.
The Gunners finished fifth in the Premier League this season, the first time that they have failed to qualify for the Champions League since the Frenchman joined in 1996. They beat Chelsea 2-1 to win the FA Cup at Wembley on Saturday.
Thomas Tuchel leaves Borussia Dortmund
Thomas Tuchel, who led a young Borussia Dortmund side to the Champions League quarterfinals and German Cup win this season, has parted ways with the club, a statement from the club said on Tuesday.
Relations between 43-year-old Tuchel and chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has been strained since Dortmund's team bus was damaged in an explosion on April 11. However, the club confirmed that Tuchel's departure was "in no way" related to a "disagreement between two people."
"I am grateful for two exciting, beautiful and eventful years. It's a pity to not go on," Tuchel tweeted. "Thank you to the fans, the team, the staff and to all who have supported us."
Liverpool to sign Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke
Liverpool will sign 19-year-old Chelsea forward Dominic Solanke after he failed to agree on a contract with the Premier League champions. Solanke’s fee will be decided by a tribunal, with Liverpool expected to pay around £3m.
Solanke, who is currently playing the under-20 World Cup for England in South Korea, spent the 2015-16 season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, scoring seven goals in 25 games.
As Solanke is older than 17 and will sign a professional contract, Liverpool's transfer embargo, which is enforced on signing academy players from other England clubs for two years, will not apply. Solanke will officially become a Liverpool player on July 1.
