Manchester City ran riot over Watford FC as a prolific Sergio Aguero helped City win 6-0 at Vicarage Road to hand manager Marco Silva his heaviest defeat with the Hornets. Liverpool’s poor form continued as the Reds were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by underdogs Burnley at the Anfield.
Watford 0-6 Manchester City
Manchester City picked up their momentum at Vicarage Road from exactly where they had left it last season as Pep Guardiola’s star-studded side overran Watford 6-0. Striker Sergio Aguero has come back to life since City’s scintillating win over Liverpool and he was at it again on Saturday.
The Argentine was involved in four goals as City continued their unbeaten streak this season and ended Watford's run without a defeat. Aguero opened the scoring in the 27 minute with a header from Kevin De Bruyne's free-kick. He got his second from David Silva’s cross four minutes later. He provided an assist for the third goal as Gabriel Jesus made it 3-0 at half-time.
Centre-half Nicolas Otamendi restarted the scoring in the second half from yet another Silva assist before Aguero added his third with a magnificent dribble and finish, completing his sixth Premier League hat-trick. The cherry on the cake was put by Raheem Sterling who won and scored a penalty in the 89 minute to take Manchester City to the top the Premier League table.
Liverpool 1-1 Burnley
Liverpool haven’t seen a win since returning from the international break that they had so brilliantly gone into. Following a shocking 5-0 loss against Manchester City last week, Jurgen Klopp’s men couldn’t get back to winning ways this week as well.
Burnley had taken the lead at Anfield to everyone’s surprise, where Liverpool have been generally dominant. It was in the 27 minute that the Clarets went ahead as a Robbie Brady flick fell to Scott Arfield on the edge of the area, who slotted it clinically into the bottom corner of the net.
Liverpool, however, were quick to respond as new signing Mohamed Salah scored just three minutes later from an Emre Can pass, bringing down the ball in the area and smashed it past Nick Pope, who was deputizing for the injured Tom Heaton.
Pope definitely made all the difference in the second half, denying Dominic Solanke a clear goal by a point-blank save pushing onto the bar. Burnley
Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton
It was as early as in the 6 minute when the Saints were given the lead by Steven Davies, who didn’t miss from a rebound after midfielder Dusan Tadic forced Palace goalie Wayne Hennessey to divert the ball into his path.
The Eagles looked more convincing this time, though, as Jason Puncheon and Christian Benteke came close to scoring only for Fraser Forster to deny them. Chelsea loanee Ruben Loftus-Cheek also fired a shot just wide. Southampton kept their composure and could have doubled their lead only for Hennessey to save from Cedric Soares. Palace now
