Premier League | Manchester United thrash Everton 4-0, Chelsea hold Arsenal to a tame draw

Former Everton star Romelu Lukaku showed little mercy for his former club as he scored one and assisted another to help Manchester United beat Everton 4-0 ruining Wayne Rooney's Old Trafford return. Meanwhile, defending champions Chelsea and Arsenal played out a tame 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester United 4 - 0 Everton
Antonio Valencia smashed a half-volley past Jordan Pickford from 25 yards to present the hosts an early lead in just the fourth minute of the game. But with Everton tightening up their defenses, United found it difficult to increase their tally for the half.Â
Rooney, United's all-time highest goal scorer, had Everton's best opportunity to score a goal when he sent Cuco Martina scampering down the right flank and then burst forward in search of the return ball. Although Rooney picked out Martina's low cross on the edge of the penalty area, he squandered the opportunity by striking a low effort wide of the post.Â
In the final seven minutes of the game, the Red Devils came to life once again, as the Belgium international Lukaku set up a goal for Henrik Mkhitaryan in the 83rd minute before finding the net himself in the penultimate minute of the game. While many would have thought that was the end of the carnage, Anthony Martial fire home a penalty, that he had won, with just a few seconds before the final whistle, extending Everton's winless run to six games in all competitions.Â
Manchester rivals, United and City are now three points clear of third-place Chelsea and even further ahead of Spurs, Liverpool, and Arsenal.Â
Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
After a defeat at Stoke City and a thrashing at Liverpool, Arsenal produced a much-improved performance as they settled for a 0-0 draw with Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Both sides missed a fair amount of chances in the first-half until Chelsea defender David Luiz was sent off for an ugly foul on Sead Kolasinac. The Gunners were the better side in the match and could have gone to the mid-game interval with a lead when Aaron Ramsey hit the post and Alexandre Lacazette somehow fired over on the rebound. The second half didn’t have any excitement of the first despite the introduction of Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez.
