Manchester City put five past Crystal Palace as the latter became the first team in the history of English Premier League to start a season with six losses and no goals. Manchester United stayed level on points with City thanks to a Romelu Lukaku goal that was enough to edge past Southampton.

Manchester City 5 – 0 Crystal Palace

Manchester City started the game on the  a front foot but failed to covert their chances before Leoroy Sane opened the scoring minutes before half time with a  neat finish from a  a tight angle. The second half was complete carnage as Raheem Sterling’s back to back goals in the 51st and 59th minute ended Palace's hopes of the first points of the season. Sergio Aguero and Fabian Delph added their names to the scoresheet to secure the top shoot on the table thanks to a superior goal difference.

Manchester United 1 – 0 Southampton

Romelu Lukaku’s sixth goal of the season was enough to ensure that Manchester United stayed level on points with City at the top of the Premier League table. After both teams exchanged early blows, it was Lukaku who put United in front, at the 20 minute mark, after following up on his own shot that was saved by the Saints' shotstopper. Even though United edged the first 45, Southampton came back strong after the break and created enough chances to take something from the game. But United's defence held resolute to see out the game.

Liverpool 3 – 2  Leicester City

After succumbing to a 2-0 loss in the League Cup on Tuesday, Liverpool took an early lead through Mohamed Salah, who opened the tally for Liverpool with a header in the 15th minute. Philippe Coutinho’s brilliant free-kick then gave them a 2-0 lead before Shinji Okazaki’s goal gave Leicester the impetus going into the second half. The Foxes created multiple openings but it was Liverpool who increased their lead to 3-1 after a sweeping counter attack by the visitors. Jamie Vardy reduced the deficit to just one goal but then missed a penalty to hand Liverpool a much needed win.
