Former Indian football player Shabbir Ali was mightily pleased with the India Under-20 team, stating that defeating Argentina would definitely help in confidence elevation. India Under-20 football team went on to overwhelm Argentina by 2-1 in the under-20 COTIF Cup in Valencia, this Sunday.

Shabbir Ali was immensely pleased with the victory of the Indian squad and has expressed his hope for them to surpass all expectations in the future as well. India's first meet with Argentina was back in 1984 Nehru Cup and had resulted in India losing as Argentina claimed the match by 1-0. Argentina's Ricardo Gareca had scored the winning goal for the team then.

“This is a very good result. This will definitely be a huge boost for the youngsters and I hope this result motivates them to perform even better in the future. The exposure the players are getting will be extremely beneficial for them,” said Shabbir Ali.

“Apart from Diego Maradona, it was almost the entire Argentina side that went to win the 1986 World Cup. No one expected the way we performed on that day. It was a great display,” he added.

Another Indian international marksman Biswajit Bhattacharya also appreciated the achievement recorded by the India Under-20 team in Valencia. He stated that they deserve full credit for exhibiting such an exceptional performance.

“Argentina are a powerhouse and dominant force in world football. So, beating them at any age group level is definitely praiseworthy effort. The Argentina side that we faced was preparing for the 1986 World Cup. We put up a brilliant fight on that day. However, we lost and this Indian under-20 side won, so full credit to them,” Biswajit Bhattacharya said.
