Arsenal succumbed to their sixth league defeat of the season as they lost 2-1 to AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium with Calum Wilson and Jordan Ibe scoring for the Cherries. The second game of the evening saw Liverpool ending Manchester City’s unbeaten streak as they won 4-3 at Anfield.

Bournemouth 2-1 Arsenal

The Gunners fielded an unchanged side that held Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge midweek, but the lack of creativity was clearly seen in absence of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, and Aaron Ramsey. However, the North London side drew first blood in the 52nd minute through Hector Bellerin, who got at the end of a through ball by Alexi Iwobi to finish it despite Asmir Begovic’s scrappy attempt to stop it.

However, Arsenal’s inexperienced defence meant the Cherries still had a good chance to make a comeback in the game, and they did it by scoring two goals in four minutes.  After Callum Wilson converted a perfect cross from winger Ryan Fraser in the 70th minute, he turned provider for the second one as he beautifully controlled a long ball to tee up Ibe, who made no mistake in firing it past Petr Cech. Bournemouth climb to 13th with this win as Arsenal remain sixth.

Liverpool 4-3 Manchester City

Liverpool fans needed a breath of fresh air after Philippe Coutinho moved to Barcelona last week and Jurgen Klopp ensured they got it, as the Reds became the first club in the 2017-18 season to beat league leaders Manchester City. The high-octane game went into the half-time 1-1 after Leroy Sane’s thunderous goal cancelled an early strike by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who had put his side ahead in the ninth minute.

Liverpool continued their attack on full-throttle following the break with three goals in nine minutes. Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino got his 10th league goal of the season with a spectacular finish in the 59th minute. It was followed by a goal by Sadio Mane, who managed to unleash an absolute stunner with his left foot that was kept out of Ederson’s reach. Salah put Liverpool 4-1 ahead as he got on to a misplaced pass by the goalkeeper to pick up the goal from 30 yards out.

Having a three-goal lead saw the hosts pulling their leg up from the pedal as City went on a late attacking rage. However, the Sky Blues could manage to get only two goals through Bernardo Silva and lkay Gundogan as they eventually faced their first defeat of the season. City’s lead of 15 points at the top got reduced to 12 as Liverpool moved up to the third place.
