Former India skipper Bhaichung Bhutia has been impressed by FC Goa’s attacking style of football and stated that he has become a fan of the system. The legendary Indian striker has also added that team camaraderie and discipline have been Chennaiyin FC’s main reason for success.

Today, FC Goa - the highest scorers in the league with 42 goals - will host Chennaiyin FC in the first leg of the second semi-final of the 2018 ISL at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. The team has been playing an attacking brand of a game throughout this season and managed to enter the semi-finals although they suffered a major low in the middle of the tournament in which they lost many matches. They have managed to create many fans in the country with their aggressive style of play and Bhutia is also one among them.

"Goa had suffered a mid-season slump but eventually qualified, and in quite some style. I have been a big fan of FC Goa’s playing style this season. The team is capable of playing fluent attacking football, simple but effective. They are a team who are hard to contain and if you look at their scoring chart, you will understand it better," Bhutia wrote for TOI.

"They have scored 42 goals so far, the highest among all teams. Ferran Corominas and Manuel Lanzarote have scored 30 among themselves with Corominas topping the charts at 18. Perhaps, this doesn’t need any more explanation. But at the same time the scoring charts point out that they have conceded 28 in the group stages. It’s an open secret that defence has been Goa’s worry and if that wasn’t enough, individual goalkeeping errors have added to their woes."

While Goa are one of the best teams this season, their opponents are also playing brilliant football as the Chennai based franchise has been on a five-match unbeaten run and ended the league phase in second place. Bhutia praised the team for being consistent but also added that Chennai needs an individual match-winner.

"Chennaiyin have been consistent all throughout. They are a team who back each other up and the camaraderie has been excellent. Discipline stays their forte and it’s not easy to break them down. However, Chennai badly misses that individual match-winner who can in that split second of magic turn the table upside down. Sometimes, that becomes a bit too decisive," Bhutia added.
