Bengaluru FC will have to shell out 15 lakh rupees for a repeated offence in the ISL 2018-19, which included hurling abuses at the match referee, by their fans. Bengaluru FC have had a wonderful ISL season so far as they are yet to lose a single match and sit at the top of the points table.

This Indian Super League season will down in history books as the first one where a franchise was fined for their spectators’ misconduct in the stadium. Bengaluru FC have been asked to pay an amount of 15 lakhs for the ‘repeated offence’ by their fans in the matches against FC Pune City and Kerala Blasters and the final against Chennaiyin FC last season.

“The unruly Bengaluru supporters must be reined in before anything major happens. The AIFF disciplinary committee had showcaused the club after the first game but the fans kept on abusing referees repeatedly,” said the source.

Even though the club appealed against the levy they seemed to have mellowed down and are set to pay the fine. The club’s technical director also said that it understands that everything should be within the spirit of the game and nobody should get away by abusing match officials.

“We haven’t officially received any communication from the AIFF. But then as a club, we have to accept the responsibility if the fans behave against the spirit of the game. We understand that they are passionate and want to support their club, but they cannot abuse match officials. We are not trying to govern them but then we feel they shouldn’t cross the line,” said Bengaluru FC technical director Mandar Tamhane.
