India jumps two spots to be ranked 101 in FIFA world rankings

The Indian football team has climbed two slots from 103 to be ranked 101 in the recent update of the FIFA rankings for the national teams. The Blue Tigers, who are still waiting for a new coach, have a total tally of 1219 points and are 18th among all Asian countries on the list.
The Indian football team led by British coach Stephen Constantine endured a tough outing at this year’s AFC Asian Cup which was held in the UAE. The Blue Tigers opened strongly with a 4-1 win against Thailand before suffering back-to-back losses against UAE and Bahrain to get knocked out of the tournament. Constantine immediately resigned after the final group stage loss which also saw the Indian team slip out of the top-100 FIFA rankings threshold.
However, The Indian football team have now managed to gain two places and rise to 101 in the FIFA rankings issued on Thursday. With 1219 total ranking points, the Indian team lies 18th among the Asian countries.
Sunil Chhetri & Co. did not play a single international match after the last rankings update in February. Asian giants Iran continued to top the Asian rankings at 21, followed by Japan (26), South Korea (37), Australia (41) and 2019 AFC Asian Cup winners Qatar (55). On the international front, Belgium topped the list with 1737 points, ahead of 2018 FIFA World Cup winners France (1734), Brazil (1676), England (1647) and Croatia (1621).
