Tottenham star Dele Alli is set to miss the start of the new Premier League season with a hamstring injury, with Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that the midfielder will not be able to face Aston Villa on Saturday. The English midfielder also did not feature as Spurs lost to Inter Milan recently.

Tottenham star Dele Alli is set to miss the start of the 2019/20 Premier League after injuring his hamstring, with the midfielder in doubt for the second game against Manchester City. The 22-year-old has become an influential player for the North London club but has had his fair issues with injuries. He missed the entirety of February last season due to a recurring hamstring problem, which also damaged his goal scoring exploits, with Ali netting just one goal in 2019.

This is something that manager Mauricio Pochettino reiterated in his post-match interview, even going on to say that Alli needs to improve. “Of course we are worried," Pochettino said. "He's still so young and has had many, many hamstring problems the last few years. He has to pay attention to what is going on in his body, but we are here to try to help him. It is a minor injury. Only a few weeks before he can be available again and be with the group.”

The English midfielder joins Argentine Juan Foyth on the physio's table, which leaves the North London side without a first-team right-back. The young defender suffered a more serious injury to his ankle and will definitely miss the start of the season. “It’s a tough injury and it’s many weeks [of recovery],” Pochettino further added. “The medical staff are going to update in the next few days. We hope he can recover as soon as possible.”

After the disappointment of last season, where the club was on the cusp of achieving their maiden European trophy, Tottenham should be looking forward to their 2019/20 campaign, hoping for a bright start at their newly built stadium opening their season against newly-promoted Aston Villa.
