Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has denied rumours that David Luiz forced a move to Arsenal and that he never did go on strike to make his move happen. The 32-year-old center-back made the deadline day move to Arsenal in a deal worth ÂŁ8 million, signing a two year deal with the North London side.
Frank Lampard has revealed that the opportunity to sell David Luiz was not down to the fact that the 32-year-old forced a move to Arsenal. The Gunners were linked with a shock move a day before the transfer deadline day, with reports coming in that Luiz was very interested. Things happened very quickly, with Arsenal eventually confirming the move on deadline day.
The Brazilian is in line to make his debut on Sunday for the club, and Lampard has gone on to confirm that Luiz’s transfer was purely down to a footballing one.
“I just have to make decisions every day. They are about doing things the right way. The last thing I want to do is look back on these times and think I wish I had done that differently. These are just decisions that I do daily. If it looks like that from the outside [like a power play], then it wasn’t. I did it purely as a football decision,” Lampard added. “We had some conversations over the last week, honest conversations because I know David well. There certainly wasn’t any strikes.
"I’ll make that clear straight away. And in terms of fallouts, no, there weren’t. There were honest conversations. As a player, I always respected honesty from a manager whatever the news. And I think I got that back from David hence why he ends up moving on to Arsenal. There were no strikes.”
