Arsenal star Mesut Ozil and his representatives have been in touch with DC United with the MLS side looking for a potential replacement for Wayne Rooney. The German international has been one of the many names linked with a move away from the Emirates, but nothing has materialized yet.

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates over the last six months or so, but nothing has materialized. No club has ever made their interest in the German formal, or even come close to tabling a bid for the 30-year-old midfielder. Instead, the former Real Madrid star opted to say that he’s happy in North London and has no plans of leaving.

However, with various other security issues playing a big part in recent weeks, it has changed the German’s stance on leaving, with the Daily Mail reporting as such. According to the Mail, Ozil’s agents have met with MLS side DC United, over a potential move, with the club looking to replace Wayne Rooney.

The former Manchester United star is set to leave in January to join Derby County, and DC United believe that Ozil is the right man to replace him. The Mail further adds that if a move does take place, DC United prefer that the move does take place in January, although they are open to a summer switch as well.

Both Ozil and Arsenal left-back Sead Kolasinac missed the Gunners’ opening day fixture against Newcastle United, with security issues preventing them from traveling. However, ahead of their second Premier League game against Burnley, manager Unai Emery has reported that he’s confident that they’re 100% fit and in the right mental state to play football again.
