Chennai City FC ties up with German company for developing grassroots football

Defending I-League champions, Chennai City FC have announced a strategic tie-up with German sports goods supplier uhlsport, which would help develop grassroots football in Tamil Nadu and across India. uhlsport is the official supplier and official ball sponsor of top French top tier Ligue 1.

Keeping an eye on the development of grassroots football mainly in terms of facilitating of getting equipments for all the programmes at the lowest level, this would be a good tie-up. 

“We are delighted to have such an esteemed brand on board with us. We believe that this partnership will work wonders for the development of grassroots football in the state of Tamil Nadu. We will be focusing on using the equipment exclusively for all the grassroots festivals and programs conducted by us,” said Chennai City owner and director Rohit Ramesh, reported The Hindu.

For Uhlsport, however, this move would be a pathway to enter the Indian football market that has shown a lot of promise in the last few years with the nation bidding hosting junior World Cups. 

“We’re delighted to announce the new cooperation with Chennai City to support a sustainable growth of football education in India. With our well-developed relationship with this prospering club, we are keen to enter the Indian market and have them experience our good quality sporting goods,” said uhlsport GmbH managing director Dominik Solleder.

“Uhlsport also wants to associate with other sporting organisations and tap into the growing sporting market in the country,” he further added.

Established in 1948, Uhlsport has been mainly selling football products under the uhlsport brand and handball products under the Kempa brand. They are also the official supplier of the Bundesliga teams 1. FC Koln and Fortuna Dusseldorf.
