After a glittering career with the two-time Indian Super League champions, Chennaiyin FC have finally parted ways with their star Brazilian midfielder Raphael Augusto. The 28-year-old attacking midfielder has made 68 appearances for the Marina Machans since he first joined them in 2015.

Popularly known as “Rapha”, Augusto has been the fan favourite since day one with his samba skills and abilities to go past defenders with unparalleled ease. However, he will always be remembered for his goal against Bengaluru FC in the final of the 2017-18 season.

It was during the second half of the final when on a counter-attacking break, Augusto was seen running into the attacking third and curling the ball at the far post past Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. That went on to be the winner in the end as Chennaiyin lifted the trophy that season.

Prior to that in the 2015-16 season too, he had played a significant role in CFC reaching the knockouts before he was injured and had to sit out of the semi-final and final. Though Chennai went on to win the league that season as well, fans will never forget his run up till the knokcouts.

Making a whopping 68 appearances in all competitions for the club, Augusto went on to score seven goals and provided six assists. While the last season didn’t see him taking the club to their past heights, his solo efforts were often cheered from time to time. He was the lone scorer for CFC in the final of the Super Cup that they lost 2-1 to FC Goa.

"Raphael Augusto is a name synonymous with Chennaiyin and the club's rich history. He will forever be remembered as someone who gave more than 200% every time he took to the pitch, and the club's most ardent supporter off the pitch. We hope he continues to remain one, even now. We are all emotional at his departure from the club, and we would like to take this moment to thank him for all the countless memories. His flair, trickery, technical brilliance and not to mention his ever-smiling demeanour will forever be ingrained in our club's folklore. We would like to wish him and his lovely family, the very best for the future," the Chennaiyin FC co-owners said in a joint statement, reported TOI.
