Mumbai City FC head coach Jorge Costa has lamented that the one point is not enough after Mumbai City hold Kerala Blasters to a 1-1 draw at the Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday. The coach then revealed what went wrong in their game and reasserted his confidence in his team for a comeback.
Mumbai City FC could not come back into winning ways at their home against Kerala Blasters in the 1-1 draw on Thursday. However, Mumbai came from behind to level the score against Blasters with Cameroonian striker Messi Bouli scoring for Kerala, while Tunisian Amine Chermiti scored for the Islanders.
The Islanders are now sixth in the table with seven points and their only win came against Kerala Blasters in their opener in Kochi. Mumbai City FC head coach Jorge expressed his disappointment with the draw and stated he believes in his team.
“At the end, it’s one point, which is not enough. I cannot be happy with the point. But I believe in this team. I believe that game by game we are getting better. You can see that we are trying. We are playing good, with quality.” Jorge Costa told reporters at the post-match conference, ISL website reported.
“In the last three games, we finished with three points but in my opinion, we deserved to finish with nine. I think we did enough to have these nine points,” Costa added.
The Portuguese coach then went onto analysing his team’s performance in the game in which Kerala Blasters surprised Mumbai by dominating in the first half, despite playing with three foreigners and mostly youngsters. And Costa indirectly pointed out an individual for his inaction. Â
“Something went wrong in the first half. I will not say what, but it was an individual player who was not doing what he was supposed to do. But we played well. We created more chances. They scored from one bad mistake. We were not in the right place when they scored. Then we had the luck to equalise. We tried. We were so close to scoring one more goal.”
Moreover, the Portuguese coach spoke about the mistakes and reasserted his confidence in his squad despite the poor result.Â
“I see the mistakes that we made. We made one mistake. As you can understand, in 95 minutes, it’s normal that you can make a mistake. What is not natural and normal is that every mistake that we are making, the opposition is scoring. We work a lot to create chances and we are not scoring. I’m calm and confident. I know what I’m doing every day. The players know what they are doing, they know what they need to do,” he added.
