When it comes to football, December just happens to be hell month with teams playing between eight to ten games in the space of four weeks. But this time it’s even worse and after three games, for English and French sides, in a week the Champions League is back and it’s back with an absolute bang. It is the final round of group-stage games and they’ve given us a brilliant line-up, a bit congested but brilliant nevertheless.

Only eight teams have their places in the knockout stages confirmed with two groups already done and dusted. That means that Bayern Munich, Tottenham, Real Madrid and PSG have nothing to play for while everyone else does. The most important ones happen on Tuesday night, however. As Liverpool take on RB Salzburg and Napoli battle Genk with nothing confirmed in Group E before Chelsea host Lille and Ajax host Valencia with nothing confirmed in Group H as well.

Groups C, D, F and G each have one team confirmed with a place in the knockout stages with the games taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday night. That includes an Inter Milan vs Barcelona marquee game, a Bayer Leverkusen vs Juventus fight, a Shakhtar Donetsk vs Atalanta clash and Borussia Dortmund hosts Slavia Praha. A perfect end to the Champions League group stages and it makes for a decent weekday. And then there is the Europa League but we must never talk about that…
