Juventus Chairman Andrea Agnelli has revealed that Maurizio Sarri has taken on a tough challenge this season but has backed the Italian to succeed at the club. The former Chelsea boss signed for Juventus at the start of the season but has struggled in recent weeks with the club in second place.

For Juventus and their managers, anything less than a Scudetto at the end of the season is seen as a sackable offence which is why the pressure has been building on Maurizio Sarri. With Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan in the race for the title, it has lit up the Serie A with many considering Lazio as the dark horses. However, Juventus have helped the Nerazzurri with a two game winless run which saw them concede the top spot.

Yet despite the Turin giants sitting one point behind Inter Milan, Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli has admitted that while Sarri has taken on an immense challenge, the Italian manager has the full support of the board.

"Sarri has taken on a tough and difficult challenge. But we know together, we can win it all," the Juve chief said reported Gazzetta dello Sport.

The former Chelsea boss has managed in Italy before with Napoli and gave Juventus arguably the biggest fight they’ve ever had for the title. In his three seasons with the Stadio Sao Paulo side, Sarri finished second on all three occasions and came within inches of winning the title in his final season before he left for England. His spell with Chelsea saw him win the first trophy of his career via a Europa League and that earned him a return to Italy.

However, even the Italian admitted that the job is a massive challenge for him as he joined a side that has won a lot but he will take things as they come. Sarri also went on to add that he will make sure that the club does well not just in Italy but also in Europe with the club still looking for their first Champions League title this millennium despite reaching three finals over the last 19 years.

"Clearly this is a big challenge for me. It’s been difficult since I accepted the job because I arrived in a team and in a company that has won a lot. We want to continue to win in Italy and to be competitive in Europe. In Italy, winning the Scudetto is almost an obligation, while in Europe we do not feel this, but only as a great challenge to make all the Juventus fans happy. It will not be easy, but I am happy to be here and to have accepted this challenge," he said reported Goal.
