The ongoing construction work at the Mohun Bagan ground has resumed after a complaint last week had led to a little break in the same. The stadium is getting renovated ahead of the upcoming season and is being fitted with all modern facilities to make it suitable to host the club’s I-League matches.

Earlier this month, extensive work had started on the Mohun Bagan ground to equip it with proper facilities to make the premises modern enough to hold regular matches. The club officials have stated that they will be trying their best to host all of the I-League home matches at the stadium itself.

The changes include the construction of two dressing rooms for either teams, a room for match officials, a room for dope tests, medical room, broadcast and telecast room, a gymnasium and a ball boys’ room. The club’s cafeteria has already been remodelled and was inaugurated in June.

However, a complaint had forced the work to stop until it could be completely addressed. Prompt response from the necessary authorities has meant that the problem has been solved quickly and work can now begin again without any hindrance.

“The work had stopped for a few days. We immediately got in touch with the Army and had to make some alterations to the plans. Things are back on track now. We are thankful to the Army and the Police for their prompt response and cooperation in resolving the matter," the club’s finance secretary Debashis Dutta was quoted saying.

The 129-year-old club has historically used the Salt Lake Stadium for its league games, but last season tried to make use of its own ground to host a few home games. The ground has traditionally been used as a training ground and to host the Calcutta Football League matches. However, ever since the club had to use the Barasat stadium for its home games when the Salt Lake Stadium was undergoing renovation a few years ago, the club has strived to extend the use of its home ground and initiated the process by repairing and inaugurating new floodlights in 2016.

"We have the floodlights installed at our club ground. But in order to organize the home matches of the League matches here, these infrastructural developments are needed. We also thank Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the financial help in the infrastructural work,” Dutta added.
