AFC Level 1 goalkeeping course instructor Kris Yong Wai Hwang is of the belief that India has the potential to become the Asian giants in the sport of football because of the wide pool of talented players. Hwang was in India for the AIFF’s Level 1 AFC Goalkeeping coaching course in Goa.

Indian football has made good progress in the last few years. The Indian men’s team played in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier this year. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) had also successfully hosted the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017 and is all ready to organise the  FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the country next year as well.

AFC Level 1 goalkeeping course instructor Kris Yong Wai Hwang, who was in Goa for a Level 1 AFC course by the AIFF has stated that India certainly has the potential to become a top footballing nation in the continent.

“The modules I have recommended is to produce more creative coaches with creative methodologies that encourage the goalkeepers to make their decisions in sessions,” Hwang told the AIFF media team.

“India has the potential to be the Asian giants in football due to the amount of good talents the country possesses. With more emphasis on coaching education and commitments of the local coaches, I strongly believe India will be a big force in Asian football.”

The course was for one week and many former players and national-level coaches from various parts of the country took part in it. Academy and club-level coaches had also shown interest to learn over the period of one week in which 32 participants registered in total. Hwang talked about the importance of having different coaches work in groups during the curriculum.

“When they found out that they were the ones that going to do the group demonstrations, they started interacting and discussed the group projects,” said Hwang about the 32 participants in the course,” the instructor explained.

“The most important part of the course is to upgrade their knowledge and the understanding of how to get the best out of their goalkeepers. The coaches too agreed that they should be more accommodating to the players’ needs by having the right attitude and character when dealing with the players.”
