The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has shortlisted five venues for the upcoming FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup to be played next year in India. According to The Times of India, Goa, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata and Mumbai have been shortlisted for the mega football event in the country.

After AIFF won the bid to host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup by going past Armenia and France, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) is in full action. India had previously hosted the Men’s U-17 FIFA World Cup in 2017 and the football federation of the country is looking forward to adding new venues to the list for the women’s event next year.

The Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar is almost certain to host the matches during the event as the AIFF has an understanding with the State Government of Odisha. According to the TOI sources, apart from Bhubaneswar, Goa, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Mumbai have also been shortlisted to host the matches.

A core team from the FIFA and the LOC for the tournament are now touring the cities across the country to inspect the stadiums and other necessary requirements to host a FIFA event.

The U-17 World Cup for the boys back in 2017 included 24 teams and the matches were played in six venues. However, the women’s event in the same age category will have 16 teams and is scheduled to be played in only four stadiums. After visiting the Transstadia Arena in Ahmedabad last week, the inspection team will travel to Goa on Thursday.
