Gokulam Kerala FC's new signing from Trinidad and Tobago, Nathaniel Garcia believes that when he starts to score goals in the I-League he might get a national team call. The forward who played 5 games for Trinidad and Tobago also shared why he choose to come to Kerala and play for Gokulam Kerala.

Gokulam Kerala, who are the current champions of the Historic Durand Cup, assembled a strong squad ahead of the 2019-20 I-League season. The Malabarians signed 26-year-old Nathaniel Jude Garcia and he becomes the third player from Trinidad & Tobago in the Gokulam roster. Star striker Marcus Joseph and centre-back Andre Etienne are the other two players.

Garcia scored a goal against Bangladesh Premier League champions Bashundhara Kings in the Sheikh Kamal Cup 2019 last month. The young Caribbean striker revealed why he chose to play in Kerala.

"I wanted to know if the place (Kerala) is friendly and comfortable to play football. Marcus is a friend of mine from a very young age, he told me that I can do well at Gokulam and they needed me," Garcia told Goal.

Moreover, Garcia who played 5 times for Trinidad and Tobago national team hopes to get a call to the national team once he starts to score goals.

"This season is very important for me. Once I perform, my name goes back home. Once I start scoring goals, I may get a call to the national team again,"

The North Kerala based side hopes for a better show after their disappointing first two seasons in the I-League. Gokulam Kerala are one of the favourites in I-League this season after they won the Durand Cup and also reached the semi-final of the Sheikh Kamal Cup in Bangladesh. The forward also added that he hopes to win the I-League title with Gokulam Kerala in the near future.

"It has been a very good experience so far. I expected to win (Sheikh Kamal Cup) because we were the favourites but football is a funny game. We win some, you lose some. I really do believe we can win the title this season. But the game is played on the day. We are very confident, we are training really hard and the team has bonded and gelled well. Everyone understands each other," he said.
