Jose Mourinho perfect person to replace Mauricio Pochettino, claims Eric Dier
Eric Dier has revealed that former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is the perfect replacement for Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine was sacked during the international break and replaced by Mourinho with him already off to a flying start with Tottenham’s first away win since January.
The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan manager took charge of his first game at the helm of Tottenham and walked away with the club’s first away win since January. That alone highlights the struggles the North London giants had under Mauricio Pochettino despite the Argentine’s success with the club. However, exiled Spurs star Eric Dier believes that this result is just the start for the club.
The English international struggled to get a look into the team under Pochettino but after missing out on months of action, Dier made his return under Mourinho. The 25-year-old played a large part in the win against West Ham and went on to admit that the Portuguese tactician is the perfect replacement for Pochettino. He also added that the club and the players are overjoyed with Mourinho’s appointed because they believe he can lead them forward.
“I think he’s the perfect person to have followed on from Pochettino - that’s the feeling I have. We’re really happy that if someone was to replace Pochettino, it was him. His record is unbelievable and he transmits that confidence. The way he speaks, you believe it, you feel it from him. I think for everyone, we’re very lucky to have played under Pochettino and now Mourinho. We couldn’t be luckier,” Dier told Goal.
The former Manchester United had already revealed that he won’t be making major changes to the squad as he believes they already have the players needed to win trophies. That same fact was reiterated to the team, Dier added, and Mourinho revealed that the main aim would be to help the squad improve their form. Dier further admitted that the squad will look to adapt to the manager’s tactics and hopefully carry out what he wants on the field.
“I think he said to you guys, like he said to us, that he doesn’t want to come in and change everything two days before a game. I think it’s going to be something gradual that we move towards over time. He has his ways, he has his ideas and his mentality, so we’re just trying to adapt to that now," he added.
