Kerala Blasters fans were disappointed not to find injured Malappuram lad Arjun Jayaraj's name in the official squad announced by the franchise for this year’s Indian Super League. However, club officials revealed that the former Gokhulam FC star would play for the reserves after his recovery.

Blasters’ 25-man squad for the sixth edition of ISL didn’t have the high-profile domestic signing after the player suffered an injury during the club’s pre-season friendly campaign. And although the player has been well on his course to recovery, the management has decided to overlook him for the time being.

However, sources close to the team management has hinted at Jayaraj coming back to the senior side during the season if and when someone gets injured, "Arjun will be in our reserves squad and he still has a chance to play in ISL if any of the registered players get injured," the source clarified, reported TOI.

Apart from Jayaraj, there were seven players from Kerala in the squad, which included the likes of custodians TP Rehenesh and Shibin Raj Kunniyil, forwards Mohammed Rafi and Rahul KP, midfielders Sahal Abdul Samad and Prashanth Mohan and defender Abdul Hakku Nediyodath. In other injury news, there have been reports of Mario Arques and Jairo Rodrigues not starting the season with injuries.
