Jurgen Klopp has admitted that RB Salzburg taught Liverpool an important lesson after a 4-3 win over the Austrian side in a Champions League clash. The Reds took a three goal lead in the first half only to watch as Salzburg produced an unlikely comeback, but a Mohamed Salah goal confirmed victory.

For any other side, playing against Liverpool at Anfield and then overcoming a three-goal deficit in the second half would prove to be a task too hard. The Reds took a comfortable lead after just half an hour, with goals from Sadio Mane, Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah. But RB Salzburg somehow managed to do just that and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could do nothing but watch as his side threw away a three-goal lead against the Austrian side.

However, a late second-half goal by Mohamed Salah would mean that Liverpool walked away with all three points in a chaotic 4-3 victory. It saw Liverpool collect their first points in the 2019/20 Champions League after an opening day loss to Napoli but Jurgen Klopp was far from happy. In an interview with Sky Sports, the German went on to admit that his side played well but struggled after Jesse Marsch changed his tactics.

“The first 30 minutes was some of the best football we played so far, I would say, against a very good organised team with a clear identity. We did everything that they don't like on high speed, scored the three goals, could have scored more. They changed the system - that's allowed and not really a problem usually but tonight it was for us. We changed, for some reason, the approach. Some were in a controlling mood, some were in an attacking mood, and other positions were too hectic,” Klopp said reports Sky Sports.

The win now does mean that Liverpool have won their last 12 home games in all competitions, their best run since 1985. They are also now unbeaten in 20 home European games and despite the stumble against Napoli, Klopp is looking to get Liverpool through at the top of their group. But with Salzburg giving the Reds a run for their money the German had nothing but praise for his opponents even admitting that they taught them a lesson.

"It was a very important lesson for us tonight but I prefer massively to learn it in the game than after the game because, if we lost 4-3, it would have been the same lesson. Now we won 4-3 so three points and a lot to learn from so, I'm fine. I knew before that we have to improve a lot but now everybody knows it probably,” concluded the German.
