ISL 2019-20 | Bengaluru FC to play home matches at Sree Kanteerava stadium
Reigning Indian Super League (ISL) champions Bengaluru FC has confirmed that they will play their home matches in the upcoming season at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Bengaluru FC will begin its ISL 2019-20 campaign on October 21 with a home game against NorthEast United FC.
Reigning Indian Super League (ISL) champions Bengaluru FC are set to play their home matches in the upcoming season at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, the club announced on Thursday.
“STATEMENT: We can confirm that Bengaluru FC will be playing its home games for the 2019-20 season out of the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. #WeAreBFC #RoomForMore,” the club said in a statement on Twitter.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Government. of Karnataka, the Sports Ministry, the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, the Karnataka Athletic Association and all other stakeholders and associations for their support in making this happen.
"Our endeavour, as always, will be to keep the flag of the state flying high in the field of sport and beyond," the club statement further read.
Bengaluru FC was involved in a legal tussle over the use of the premises for its home matches with the local athletes filing a PIL in court against the use of the facility for football. The club had subsequently made arrangements to shift base to Pune after enlisting Balewadi stadium as its back-up venue for home games for the upcoming season but said that efforts were still on to host matches at the venue.
Earlier this week, reigning ISL champion Bengaluru FC (BFC) got the nod from the Department of Youth Empowerment & Sports (DYES), Govt. Of Karnataka to hold its matches at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium.
The move will come as a blessing to the defending ISL champions who had forged a fortress at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium remaining unbeaten there all season, winning seven out of the ten matches played. Bengaluru FC will begin its ISL 2019-20 campaign on October 21 with a home game against NorthEast United FC.
