Roy Keane has claimed that Gareth Southgate or England are not learning from their mistakes after a defeat to the Czech Republic. The English took the lead via a Harry Kane penalty in their Euro 2020 qualification group but then conceded two goals to fall to their first loss of the qualifying stage.

Despite taking the lead via a Harry Kane penalty, after Raheem Sterling was upended inside the box, England conceded a goal in each half to lose their first game of the Euro 2020 qualification stage. However, things could have gone much worse for the away side with the Czech Republic doing rather well to test Jordan Pickford and company. They had 17 shots on goal with eight of those on target compared to England’s seven and four respectively. But despite the fact that Gareth Southgate’s side dominated the ball, they simply couldn’t find a way back.

It also puts their qualification for the Euro 2020 on hold as a victory in Prague would have confirmed their selection, alongside Belgium, to next summer’s tournament with three matches to spare. However, Manchester United legend Roy Keane has claimed that England did not look up to the task from the get go against the Czech side. The Irishman went on to add that the English showed far too much complacency against a good Czech side.

"I don't think England looked right from the start of the game. They didn't seem sharp, a lot of bickering going on towards the end, which is fine because they're upset. To me, there was almost a bit of arrogance from England," the Sky Sports pundit said on ITV.

Fans of the Three Lions expected nothing less than a win after their 5-0 win against the Czech Republic in Group A’s opener in March. That just might have happened especially after Kane’s early penalty but the Czech Republic, who looked determined to stop a replay of the reverse fixture, equalised four minutes later from a corner. That showed a willingness to exploit England’s major weakness with 36% of their goals conceded from set-pieces. Keane went on to add that it’s a major problem for Southgate and something he has to solve before the Euros start.

"It's certainly a big problem, and Gareth, having been a centre-half, will probably be having sleepless nights a bit. Sometimes you have to lose to win, as long as you're learning your lessons. But what I've seen from this team over the last year, and there's no need to panic, but they don't seem to be learning from those sloppy mistakes. Against a better team, you will suffer for it,” concluded the Irishman.
