Sampdoria appoint Claudio Ranieri as manager

Serie A side Sampdoria have appointed former Roma and Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri as their new manager. The Italian boasts significant managerial experience in Italy as he has previously coached Juventus, Roma and Inter Milan and Sampdoria hope that Ranieri can save them from relegation.

As per BBC report, Former Chelsea and Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri has replaced Eusebio di Francesco at the helm of Sampdoria after Francesco led the club to the bottom of the Serie A table after six defeats in seven matches. Ranieri also replaced Di Francesco at Roma last season after Di Francesco was sacked mid-season for poor Roma performances. It is the former Chelsea managerā€™s 20th managerial appointment and a ninth spell as a boss in Italy's top flight after spells with AS Roma and Inter Milan.

Ranieri masterminded Leicester Cityā€™s unbelievable title triumph in 2015-16 season but was sacked next season as the club failed to hold onto the title-winning momentum and struggled to make any semblance of an impact in the Champions League.Ā The ItalianĀ returned to club management with Nantes in 2017-18, beforeĀ signing forĀ English top-flight with Fulham in November 2018.Ā  Fulham were battling relegation and Ranieri was charged with the task to stop Cottagers from getting relegated.

Sacked by the Cottagers after only 106 days in charge, Ranieri made an emotional return to AS Roma where he began his career as a player. He did better than Francesco but failed to take the club to the Champions League as Romans finished sixth in the league table, finishing three points behind the Champions League places. The 67-year-old manager is now tasked with saving Sampdoria from the clutches of relegation as they sit last in the table with just one win.Ā The former Chelsea coachā€™s first game in charge of the 1991 Serie A winners will be at home against his former side Roma.
