I-League giants Mohun Bagan started their Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup campaign on a bad note as they lost the opening game by a margin of 1-2 goals against Young Elephants FC. Although Young Elephants FC were down to 10 men, they managed to edge past the Kolkata team in Group A game.

It was not a great day for the reputed Indian side Mohun Bagan in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup as they were beaten 1-2 by 10-man Young Elephants FC of Laos in a Group A clash at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong. Kibu Vicuna's boys, however, had started the game on a great note last evening as they managed to take the lead in the 18th minute of the match.

Colinas gave the lead for the green and maroons as he slotted the ball into the far post after receiving a header from Salva Chamorro who had got the ball from Beitia's corner from the right. However, the Bengal side was not able to continue with the same momentum after that and conceded a goal before the halftime.

One minute before the break, the Laos team scored the equaliser as Somxay Xeohanam found the back of the net for them. Chantachone Thinolath was the player with the assist as he managed to get the ball go through Daniel Cyrus and Bikramjit Singh.

As the score was 1-1 for most of the part in the second half, Mohun Bagan had a golden opportunity to take the lead as they got a spot-kick with three minutes remaining in the regulation time. However, Bietia’s kick was stopped nicely by goalkeeper Xay Sabath and the goal was denied by the team from Laos. On the counter, Young Elephants FC went on to score the winner. Thinolath crossed the ball from the right and that went over Cyrus. The ball fell on the feet of Xeohanam who managed to nail it for his second goal.
