Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has backed current coach Lucien Favre to remain at the Signal Iduna Park after the club failed to secure a win against Inter in the Champions League. Zorc also dismissed reports of Jose Mourinho being evaluated as a possible successor to Lucien Favre.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has said reports that Jose Mourinho is top of the club's list of managers to succeed Lucien Favre are "without any substance." Reports had emerged from Germany linking the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager with a job in Germany and with Borussia Dortmund's tricky start to the season, it has seen the reports take shape. The German giants sit 4th in the Bundesliga table with 15 points in 8 games.

Lucien Favre's men came inches close to breaking Bayern Munich's dominance in the Bundesliga last season but eventually let a 9 point lead slip. The former Nice coach signed a new contract before the start of this season but with Dortmund not in a driving seat, reports have surfaced that Favre might soon be sacked. However, Michael Zorc went on to admit his faith in Favre and dismissed reports of Mourinho being linked to the Dortmund job.

"Those Mourinho rumours are without any substance. There is no discussion around our coach. We are delighted Lucien Favre is our coach," said Zorc to the ESPN.

Dortmund travel to Gelsenkirchen for the Revierderby at Schalke on Saturday, play Borussia Monchengladbach in the cup next and then take on undefeated Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. They then play Inter at home in the Champions League and travel to Munich to face Germany champions Bayern Munich. This run of challenging fixtures is surely going to test Favre and his team and a poor result in any of these games could prove costly.
