Arsenal made a big mistake selling Alex Iwobi, says Nwankwo Kanu

Alex Iwobi was one of Everton's top transfers this summer, moving to Goodison Park for the amount of €30 million. The winger had an up and down season last year, not being able to secure a starting spot in Unai Emery's squad thanks to tight competition from Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

With the addition of Nicolas Pépé, former Arsenal star Alex Iwobi was looking at yet another season of reduced playing time for the Gunners, so when the Toffees showed interest, it was a matter of time until the deal materialized. The promising player is now one of the focal points in Marco Silva's Everton attack and has room to grow as he will likely start in almost every game.

That growth has already started with Iwobi netting two goals in his first two games for the Goodison Park side, after finishing his Arsenal career with just 13 goals in one appearance short of a 150. But his transfer has caused a lot of termoil amidst former Arsenal players, with many showing their dislike over Unai Emery's decision to sell the cult hero. It has also seen Nigerian cult hero Nwankwo Kanu become one of the many, saying that Iwobi’s connection to Arsenal should have seen Unai Emery keep him.

"I would say they made a mistake, 100 per cent. Why they let him go, I don't know. He's a boy who, in and out, is Arsenal. He always wanted to do his best for the club. He loves the club, but not only that he can play football. What he brings week in, week out, the fans need to appreciate that. I think he is still young and those are the type of people you want in the team, people who grew up here, who knows everything about the club and wants to die for the club," Kanu expressed to the Daily Mail.
