Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has admitted that while it was nice to finally score a goal, nothing has changed when it comes to his penalty-taking techniques. The Red Devils have struggled to score from the spot, with both Rashford and Pogba missing two out of their last three attempts.

For the first time this season, it was a spot-kick that saved Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United’s blushes, with Marcus Rashford stepping up take it. The young striker had missed his last spot-kick for the Red Devils, when he hit the post against Crystal Palace, with Paul Pogba missing his attempt before that. But, with no Pogba this time around, Rashford stepped up and comfortably buried the kick well past Kasper Schmeichel early in the first-half which was the only goal of the game.

It takes the 21-year-old to 2 goals for the season, with both coming in the Premier League, to put him level with Anthony Martial and just one behind top scorer Daniel James. Now, in an interview with MUTV, the young forward has opened up about his struggles in front of goal and even taking about exactly how he takes his penalties.

“There has been a lot of talk [about penalties] but it is all about clearing that out of your head and just getting back down to basics. When it comes down to it, that is all you know, to get to the first team, it is by doing the basics and working hard. I just try to look at the keeper, especially a keeper like him because he has a good jump and likes to go early. If it is not hard and in the corner, then he has a chance of saving it. But it was a nice feeling to score,” he told MUTV.

With Manchester United walking into the international break on the back of a winless run, Rashford believes that the international break came at the perfect moment for the club. The Mancunian striker further added that while the club has been playing well, they still need to work on their performances if they want to move up the table.

“The preparations are a lot more difficult for the manager and staff to get the work in. But we have used it as a positive, following the last game at Southampton. We felt we should have won that game so the break worked in our favour because we got to go away and clear our heads, focused on the games with the national teams and then came back with fresh minds,” said Rashford.

“As a result, I think it was a bit more calm today. It felt like, on the pitch, we knew we were going to win. We have been playing well since the start of the season. Today wasn’t as good a performance but we got the three points. Football is funny at times and that’s how it goes,” concluded the Englishman.
