Aim is to get Manchester United back to the top, claims Ed Woodward

Ed Woodward has admitted that his main aim is to get Manchester United back on track and back to the top of English football. The Red Devils have endured a tumoultous period ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, and have struggled to find the right mix of players and coaches to get them back on top.
The Old Trafford side may have spent nearly a 150 million in the summer window on just three signings but their performances this season have shown no signs of improvement. So far, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and company have managed just three wins in all competitions, losing two and winning just one out of their five league games.
This includes losses to Crystal Palace, West Ham United and a draw against Southampton, which has irked a few supporters but Ed Woodward is not worried. In an interview with Sky Sports, the Manchester CEO had a lot to say, even backing Ole and co to get the club back to the top of English football, which is their top aim.
“Returning to the roots of our club's ethos of youth-led, attacking football is the right way forward and everyone at the club: the board, the manager, the squad and all of the staff remain resolute in our desire to get Manchester United back to the top of English football. We'll continue to make the necessary investments to make this happen across our first-team players, our academy and our recruitment department. This long-term approach to building a squad is the right one,” said Woodward to Sky Sports.
Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s management, Manchester United has opted to use younger players and develop their youth academy, which has worked out to some extent. It has seen Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes, all flourish so far for the club. Not just that, with a long Europa League season ahead of them, it could see a few more make their mark. This saw Woodward add, that he believes, what Ole is doing and has done so far, is the perfect building block for the club.
"Much of the progress made around that investment in the academy, the recruitment department and the training ground facilities is behind the scenes and therefore isn't immediately apparent to those on the outside looking in. These investments, together with the commitment we've made to Ole and his coaching staff in March have given us the building blocks for success.
“Whilst we're confident this investment will deliver results, it's important that we are patient while Ole and his team build for the future. We will continue to focus on the long-term strategy and won't be influenced by short-term distractions. We're optimistic for the future,” concluded Woodward.
