UEFA announced that Wembley Stadium in London will host the Champions League final in 2023, with the English arena set to host its first final after 10 years. It last hosted the final in 2013, with the UEFA also announcing hosts for the Europa League finals and a new European competition.

Saint Petersburg in Russia and Munich in Germany will be the venues for the finals in 2021 and 2022 respectively. The 2023 final will take place during the centenary year of the Wembley stadium. The original Empire stadium which was renamed as Wembley was opened in 1923 and the BBC also reports that Windsor Park in Belfast would be the venue for UEFA Super Cup in 2021.

Wembley has previously been a host on two occasions in 2011 and 2013. The stadium will also host seven games at Euro 2020. This will be the eight final being played at Wembley, with the old stadium having hosted European Cup finals in 1963, 1968, 1971, 1978 and 1992. The stadium was demolished in 2002 and rebuilt at a cost of more than £750 million.

The new arena had a capacity of 90,000 and was opened in 2007, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich walking away as winners in 2011 and 2013 respectively at Wembley. UEFA also announced that the 2021 Europa League final will be hosted in Seville, Spain. The governing body also confirmed its third European club competition, starting in 2021, will be called the Uefa Europa Conference League.

The working title will be ‘Europa League two’ and will be played on Thursdays along with Europa League matches.
