Mumbai City FC owners termed the reported partnership between the City Football Group (CFG) as ‘conjecture.’ The CFG owns seven clubs across the world including current English Premier League champions Manchester City and was supposed to acquire the Indian Super League club as well.

Reportedly, the owners of Manchester City FC were close to finalising the deal with the Indian Super League club in order to expand their market in Asia.

“Manchester City owners are poised to finalise a deal to buy Indian Super League side Mumbai City ahead of their new season starting next month. The City Football Group have held talks with a number of Indian clubs as they seek to expand their global reach,” said a source previously as stated by Mirror.

It was also informed that the investors were negotiating terms with Mumbai City’s CEO Indranil Das Blah.

“Mumbai City is now their preferred choice and negotiations with the club’s CEO Indranil Das Blah are almost complete,” added the source.

But, as per the recent developments, Mumbai City FC’s co-owner Ranbir Kapoor said the news was a ‘conjecture.’ Meanwhile, Indranil Das refused to comment on the matter. The plans for a possible takeover of the club was first held in March, earlier this year.

It was expected that the official announcement of the agreement would be made before the 2019-20 Indian Super League kicks-off on October 20.
