Drag flicker Rupinder Pal Singh has described his form in the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy hockey as “a dream run” after pumping in 10 goals in five matches. The defender’s goals paved the way for India to book a semi-final berth without losing a single match in the round-robin phase.
Rupinder Pal was India's highest scorer this year with seven goals from 20 matches, going into the premier competition. He kick-started the Malaysian tournament by scoring six goals in the opener against Japan, followed it up with a goal each against Pakistan and China before producing both goals in a thrilling 2-1 victory over the hosts on Monday.
"I would call this a dream run. Obviously, I am feeling great. It is indeed a special feeling when you score crucial goals," Rupinder Pal was quoted as saying by PTI news agency. "I have a role to play in this team, and scoring goals from penalty corners is what I am here for."
Rupinder Pal recollected his senior India debut, also in Malaysia. "It was in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup that I made my debut for India in 2010 and the next year I got a hat-trick of goals against Great Britain in the same tournament. Those are all part of my fond hockey memories."
