Indian women’s hockey captain Rani Rampal has claimed that her team has got the experience needed to do well in the upcoming World Cup 2018 to be held in London between July 21 and August 5. The Indian team is grouped in Pool B alongside the Olympic gold medalists England, USA and Ireland.

The Indian women’s hockey team is ranked 10th in the world currently and will be facing the English team in their first encounter on July 21. Before the team left for the World Cup, skipper Rani mentioned about having an edge over others from the experience perspective. She spoke about the team’s growth and how the team is confident of doing well in the World Cup.

“Barring three to four players, almost everyone in the team has had good International exposure. Many of them have more than 100 or 150 International caps for India,” said Rani.

“Every player has grown from strength to strength and I am confident that we will do well in the World Cup.”

The Indian women’s hockey team last played in the World Cup back in 2010 where they finished 9th. Apart from Rani and Deepika, no other player in the current squad has never played a World Cup before. Rani revealed that every player in the team has been waiting for this moment ever since they won the Asia Cup last year.

“The team is extremely excited and we have been waiting for this moment for the past one year post our victory in the Asia Cup. It will be a first time experience for almost every player in the team at the World Cup,” added Rani.
