Rani Rampal returns to lead the Indian women's hockey team for Spain Tour
Rani Rampal, who had been enjoying a break from the Asian Trophy, has returned for the Spain Tour scheduled to start from June 12. The team will play a five-match Series against the Spanish team and chief coach Sjoerd Marijne feels that this is a good platform for the team to fine tune their game.
Skipper and ace striker Rani Rampal has returned with fresh energy after having taken a break during the Asian Trophy where India's women's hockey team had won the silver medal. Rani will lead the 20-member strong team for the tour of Spain as the Hockey India announced that the team will play a five-match series against the Spanish team as part of its build-up for the World Cup in July, as reported by PTI.
Goalkeeper Savita will be taking charge as vice-captain while youngster Swati has been assigned as the
Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz, Monika, Neha Goyal, Navjot Kaur, and Nikki Pradhan will be positioned at mid-field. Skipper Rani will take the forward attack along with Vandana Katariya, Navneet Kaur, Lalremsiami, Udita, and Anupa Carla.
"Also, this tournament provides us a platform to fine-tune our game before the World Cup and the Asian Games in Jakarta," said chief coach Sjoerd Marijne.
"We will rotate players a lot during this tournament because as much as getting good matches ahead of important tournaments like the World Cup is essential, keeping the players fresh is also important," he added.Â
