Debutants Gujarat Fortunegiants thrashed Dabang Delhi 26-20 ticking all the boxes en route to a victory. Delhi skipper Meraj Sheykh spent the majority of the time off the mat while his counterpart Fazel Atrachalli led the Gujarat defence at the outset of the game which paved the way for an easy win.

Debutants Gujarat push veterans Delhi on the backfoot

Gujarat Fortunegiants chose the court and invited Dabang Delhi to raid first. The first three raids from both the sides were empty raids and Delhi skipper Meraj Sheykh crumbled under pressure in the do-or-die raid as the debutants drew first blood. Sachin took the responsibility of raiding the Delhi half in the do or die raid and increased the lead to 3-0. Another dry spell of raids meant Sachin once again had to enter the Delhi half with the responsibility of scoring but the Gujarat raider failed this time fetching Delhi their first point. A series of do or die raids for both sides brought the defence on either half into action who did not disappoint and continued scoring one point each before Abolfazl Maghsodlu broke the cycle winning a point in the raid. However, Sachin and Rakesh Narwal sent two Delhi players back to the bench before Gujarat inflicted an all-out on the Delhi team finishing the half with a 10-point lead with scoreboard reading 15-5.Ā

Dabang Delhiā€™s resurgent play comes too late

Gujarat picked up where they left with Rakesh raiding the Delhi half successfully followed by skipper Sukesh Hegde. Fortunegiants continued to dominate the game with their defensive approach led by Fazel Atrachalli extending their lead to 19-8. Gujarat ensured Delhi skipper and star raider Meraj continued to stay on the bench which forced Delhiā€™s left cover to raid the Fortunegiants side. Meanwhile, Rakesh continued his splendid run before the Gujarat side inflicted another all-out which fetched them three points taking the score to 25-9. R Sriram, the lone warrior from the Delhi side, managed to score four points from four raids and followed it up with two more points that resulted in the Delhi side inflicting an all-out and narrowing the lead to 26-20. However, the 16-point lead proved too much for the Dabbang Delhi who eventually ended up on the losing side with the score remaining unchanged.
