The first-ever edition of the Kabaddi Masters, pretty much on the lines of ICC Champions Trophy, will begin today in Emirates and to kick things off, India will start as the favourites against Pakistan. It will be a nine-day tournament featuring six teams at the Al Wasl Sports Club in Dubai.

The six teams participating in the competition - India, Pakistan, Iran, Republic of Korea, Argentina and Kenya - have been divided into two groups with India, Pakistan and Kenya in Group A and Iran, Republic of Korea and Argentina in Group B. Every team will play twice against the other two teams of the group and the top two teams from the groups will qualify for the semi-finals.

The Indian team arguably has the best team of the tournament. The team comprises of reliable raiders like the recently concluded PKL auction's highest earner Monu Goyat and raid machine Pardeep Narwal. The team has key defenders in the form of Surender Nada and Mohit Chhillar to cover two corners. Although the team will miss the services of regular captain Anup Kumar, Kabaddi World Cup hero Ajay Thakur will try to fill in his shoes.

The tournament will give a chance to Asian teams to get some match practice for the upcoming Asian Games, where India have won gold in every edition of the Games since 1990.

India squad: Ajay Thakur (C), Manjeet Chhillar, Girish Maruti Ernak, Surjeet, Raju Lal Choudhary, Surender Nada, Mohit Chhillar, Deepak Niwas Hooda, Sandeep Narwal, Pardeep Narwal, Rohit Kumar, Rishank Devadiga, Rahul Chaudhari, Monu Goyat
