As per Bengaluru Bulls coach Randhir Singh, pressure during a game of kabaddi is a construct which a player creates by over thinking. Tamil Thalaivas skipper Ajay Thakur is of the belief that hard work will help a player get rid of pressure situation and that gives more confidence as well.

With 12 teams in the Pro Kabaddi League battling it out on the mat to get into the playoffs at the moment, there is a huge amount of pressure on the players and the support staff as well. Most of the teams have specialists who help the players get out of pressure situations and many times the coaches also motivate their wards to ensure that there is no extra stress. For coach Randhir Singh, the pressure is a construct of overthinking.

“For me, pressure is a construct you create by overthinking. You just need to keep calm, go about your business and everything will fall into place,” Randhir told prokabaddi.com.

For many players, their preparations before the games are a path to get away from the pressure situations. Tamil Thalaivas were placed at the bottom of the points table in Zone B in season 6 and this year they have done a quiet decent as compared to the previous season. Their skipper Ajay Thakur has said that the more a player works hard, the more his confidence level goes up.

“I feel it’s only hard work that can see you through in a high-pressure situation. The more you work, the more your confidence grows, and you start believing that ‘I can do it’ or ‘I will do it’. So, practice and hard work is the only way forward,” Thakur was quoted as saying by PKL website.”

UP Yoddha’s star raider Monu Goyat has also voiced his opinion on training and practice sessions having an impact on the pressure situations. The raider said, “When we practice, what the coaches generally do is make us play according to certain situations where we’re under pressure. For example, he might put us in a situation where we’re trailing by two or five points in a game and we have two minutes left to play.”

“So, that’s how we practice handling such pressure situations. Sometimes, we’re also told to do things like raid 10 times and have at least seven successful raids or raid in a Super Tackle situation against quality defenders. That too teaches us how to deal with pressure as it becomes like a match-situation where we have to score.”
